I get accused of stretching the truth sometimes, (something which I never do), but this Fiery lady, the Chamberlain of the Duchess just admitted that she told a barefaced lie.
“I have not been completely honest with you”, (see I told you!) “I do not wish you to guard a wagon train, but rather, rid me of a nuisance that is just outside the town walls.”
I’ll admit, I wasn’t paying a lot of attention, as I was fascinated by the sheer volume of books in her office. Honestly, they were floor to ceiling. I bet, if I were allowed, I could find something out about my father in there. The others got really interested when she started talking about Gold. The dwarf wanted to have chicken involved in the deal, but the Elf looked coldly at him and he soon shut up.
It turned out that there was some big important shindig to be held at the Townhouse and there was a big group of people camping outside the gates on the route in. She wanted them gone. Town guards that had been dispatched had come back with smiles and tales about how these good folks were of no harm. In fact, later we spoke to one, he couldn’t have been nicer, but he said we should let them alone.
Anyway, the scary Fiery Lady (that’s not her name, but the books distracted me) said she’d give us 200 gold pieces to move them on. And then (and this is the best part) she gave me the purse. See! I told you I was trustworthy.
